NO MAN’S WOMAN: THE MOTHER OF FEMME FATALS ( a film review)
Today, we were assigned to write a collaborative film review in class. The aim of this task was to practice a specific review writing style while also working together with our classmates. Our lecturer provided us with some useful structures about how to introduce the movie, mention the director, and comment on important scenes and characters. In addition, we examined a sample review before starting our own writing process. I think this was a very beneficial activity because it showed us how film reviews can be used as an engaging writing task in future language classes.
For our review, we selected a classic Hollywood movie from the 1960s. We decided to watch No Man’s Woman. I had heard a song with the same title before, so I was curious about the connection between them. Since the movie was already on my watch-list, I suggested it to my friend and we agreed on it together. The film was a successful example of the noir genre, and analyzing its scenes and themes with a partner made the experience more enjoyable and memorable.
During the writing process, we used Google docs for collaborative writing. This platform was very practical because it allowed us to write at the same time, leave comments, and organize our ideas easily. Another part of the assignment was giving peer feedback to other groups. The commenting feature of Google Docs made this process easier and more interactive. It was also useful that users could control who was able to edit or comment on the document.
Unfortunately, we experienced some difficulties with the peer reflection stage because of the number of groups in class. I was disappointed because I was really motivated to exchange ideas and receive feedback from other students. Even so, I believe this task was a valuable experience. As a future English teacher, I would like to use similar collaborative writing activities in my own classroom. I think such tasks help students improve their critical thinking skills while also making the learning process more enjoyable and interactive.
